Multiple Births |
Congratulations! You are expecting multiples – twins, triplets or more. What could be more exciting? There are so many things to think about. How do I get ready? What will I need? Will we be able to manage?
This section is designed to help you answer these questions and learn more about issues specific to multiple pregnancy. It is intended to work with the other units in the Pregnancy Health Centre, and you will find lots of links to other sections.
We hope this material is useful, but it is not intended as a substitute for prenatal classes. Parents say that meeting with others who are working through similar issues is an invaluable experience. In some areas, special prenatal classes for multiple pregnancies may be available. Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre offers “Twins and More” prenatal classes at Women’s College Hospital, where parents-to-be can learn about what’s different about being pregnant with and giving birth to multiples. They can discuss preparing for the birth, getting help, resources and breastfeeding. For more information about “Twins and More” classes, call (416) 323-6030.
The Multiple Births Canada website is a useful place to find resources – including a listing of prenatal classes, in centres across Canada, for those pregnant with multiples.
