Colorectal Cancer Health Centre
Prevention

In the vast majority of cases, colorectal cancer can be prevented. Significant research in the past 20 years has focused on the controllable risk factors for colorectal cancer. We now know that many aspects of a woman's diet and lifestyle, and exposure to certain occupational and environmental carcinogens increase her risk of developing the disease. More information about controlling your risk factors and preventing colorectal cancer can be found on the following pages:

Early detection is also an important part of reducing deaths from colorectal cancer. If you are over age 50, talk to your doctor about your risks, and about what screening tests are appropriate for you. If your doctor does find polyps, have them removed promptly, to reduce the risk of cancer.
